WarnerMedia CEO Ann Sarnoff recently confirmed to Variety that the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League concludes the director’s DC trilogy, which includes Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, despite additional plot threads and cliffhangers added to Justice League, so stop asking for/demanding more.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League was recently completed and released to HBO Max thanks to years of campaigning from fans who felt Joss Whedon did a bad job finishing off the project, after Snyder had to leave following a family emergency. They got what they wanted so, obviously, they’re trying the same tactic again, demanding Warner Bros. restore the “Snyderverse” – alluded to with all those plot threads and cliffhangers. But it’s not just Snyder, fans are now also demanding an “Ayer Cut” of 2016’s Suicide Squad.
Director David Ayer has suggested a less comedic cut of the film exists and that he would like it to get released on HBO Max too, thanks. On the positive side, Snyder fans also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for suicide prevention awareness. So they’re not all bad, just some of them are.
Sarnoff is having none of it, especially since some fans have been threatening anyone that doesn’t have something nice to say about the Snyder Cut. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is “the completion of his trilogy” and they “won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut”.
I’m very disappointed in the fans that have chosen to go to that negative place with regard to DC, with regard to some of our executives. It’s just disappointing because we want this to be a safe place to be. We want DC to be a fandom that feels safe and inclusive. We want people to be able to speak up for the things they love, but we don’t want it to be a culture of cancelling things that any small faction isn’t happy with.
It’s not exactly unexpected that a fanbase famous for pressuring a studio into releasing a film they said they weren’t going to release would start pressuring said studio to release other films they said they weren’t going to release. Apparently it works.
