The first Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City movie image is exactly what you’d expect

Sony has confirmed that its 2021 movie series reboot is Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and released an image that – guess what, you guessed it – welcomes you to Raccoon City.

But I dunno about visitors enjoying the stay. The movie is based on the 1998-in-franchise-time events of the first and second games, though, so maybe it doesn’t count as false advertising so much as plausible deniability. It’s a subtle difference.

Directed by Johannes Roberts and written by Greg Russo, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City stars Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Robbie Amell (The Flash) as Chris Redfield, and Hannah John-Kamen (Game of Thrones) as Jill Valentine, with Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) and Avan Tudor Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Albert Wesker and Leon S Kennedy respectively. It’s scheduled to launch in September.
