You remember She’s All That? The 1999 movie about a “nerdy” girl who learns that glasses and a pony tail are the only things holding her back from a fulfilling life of maximum hotness? Well, it’s getting a gender-swapped reboot on Netflix.
If you think fondly of She’s All That, you were probably a teen in 1999 and your memories are basking in the nostalgic glow of that sweet sweet Fatboy Slim choreography. In this classic piece of cinema, total swamp donkey Rachael Leigh Cook is taught how to be hot by Freddie Prinze Jr. in order for him to win a bet about turning the least popular girl in school into Prom Queen. Then they fall in love, because subterfuge is an excellent basis for any relationship.
Well, now we’re getting the gender-swapped version of that. So, in He’s All That, a nerdy loser, played by total swamp wallaby Tanner Buchanan (Cobra Kai), is turned fire AF by an influencer, played by TikTok sensation Addison Rae, in order to win a bet about turning the least popular boy in school into Prom King. They’ll probably fall in love while learning important lessons about the damage an over-reliance on external validation via social media can do to one’s psychological well-being. At least I hope so.
Thanks, Netflix.
He’s All That will release some time later this year.
Via Deadline.
