Xbox Suspend

New Xbox Suspend feature should help download speeds

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of quitting your game before downloading another one on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, the incoming Suspend feature is for you.

A new feature, currently rolling out to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles, will let you suspend a game directly from the Manage Queue screen in an effort to speed up download times. It won’t actually make anything faster, but it will help remove any obstacles potentially affecting your download journey. Xbox consoles reserve connection capacity for online functionality any open games might potentially require, which means you get even less download speed than you would expect (download speeds are generally throttled for stability reasons) if a game is running while you’re downloading.

Previously, you would have to leave the download queue (like a common pleb) and go quit whatever game you’ve left open, but the new Suspend feature lets you do that from the Manage Queue screen while also keeping said game resumable/quick-resumable – convenient!

Apparently I’m in the minority for actually quitting games when I’m done playing, instead of leaving them hanging around open in the background. I do this because too many of the ones I play have a heart attack and crash if you try resuming play after playing something else, but you go live that resumable life, kids.
