Latest Xbox update fixes at least one of those controller problems

The March Xbox System Update fixes one of the issues that have been irking those with the next-gen Wireless Xbox Controllers, and we only know this because of a tweet.

Jason Ronald, program manager at Microsoft, recently reminded everyone about a recent Xbox System Update, mentioning that it also fixed the disconnection problem some people were experiencing with their new controllers.

You’d think that would be something Microsoft would want to shout about, given their acknowledgement of the issue, but the fix isn’t even mentioned in the linked article, which focusses more on their fancy new wireless headset and backwards compatible games. Without Ronald, we wouldn’t even have known.

What’s the issue? Some players on PC and Xbox were reporting that their next-gen controllers (the ones launched alongside the Xbox Series X/S) sometimes disconnect and require a console reboot to become usable again. This update should fix that, apparently, but it doesn’t mention anything about unresponsive buttons, so assume that’s still a problem.

By default, Xbox consoles automatically apply system updates, but, if you’ve meddled with the settings or something has gone awry, you can manually download it by pressing the Xbox button and navigating to Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates.
