Stephen King’s The Talisman is being adapted into a Netflix series by Stephen Spielberg and Stranger Things’ Duffer brothers and I my joy WILL NOT BE CONTAINED!
The Talisman, a fantasy novel by Stephen King and Peter Straub, follows 12-year-old Jack as he travels across the United States, dipping in and out of a parallel dimension, populated with twin versions of everyone in his own world, on a quest to find a crystal that he hopes will cure his mother’s cancer. Pre-teen protagonist? Supernatural happenings? Set in the 80s? They really got the dream team for this adaptation with Spielberg and the Duffer brothers. Prepare for a nostalgiasplosion.
In fact, Spielberg apparently purchased the film rights before The Talisman was even published back in 1984. He was just never able to turn it into a movie. So now we’re getting a series, which is a much better idea, anyway.
The sequel to The Talisman, Black House, is an adaption I’ve been hoping for for years, so holding thumbs for that. Also, go read the books, they’re excellent. They’re also part of the Dark Tower universe that is intertwined through much of King’s work, which is fun if you’re a fan.
Did I mention the werewolves? Because there are werewolves.
