Players on PC and Xbox have reported unresponsiveness from the latest generation of Xbox Wireless Controllers, launched alongside the Xbox Series X/S. Microsoft wants you to know that they’re working on it.
The new Xbox Wireless Controller comes with a handy new dedicated share button, dish-shaped D-pad, tactile dots, and a modern (but flirty) matte finish. Also included, for some people, are unresponsive A, B, X, Y buttons and, for the super-unlucky, a “feature” that makes the entire controller unresponsive while still connected, requiring a console reboot to correct – it’s the old school charm of the previous generation of controllers with a playful, next-gen twist.
This isn’t happening to everyone (I haven’t noticed anything awry), but it is happening to enough people that Microsoft is paying attention.
In a statement to The Loadout, Microsoft confirmed that they know about the unresponsiveness issue affecting some people with the new Xbox Wireless Controllers and that their “teams are actively working on a solution”. When will that solution become available? Unclear. Microsoft has not provided a timeline for the fix, nor have they identified whether it would require a simple firmware update or a physical replacement.
If unresponsiveness is a problem for you, I guess go back to using your old controller in the meantime, if you have one. If you don’t, well, my condolences.
