Iconic anime Hellsing is getting a live-action adaptation written by super-fan Derek Kolstad, screenwriter for the John Wick series of films.
Much like everything else animated or on the page these days, action-horror manga Hellsing is getting a live-action film adaptation. Originally appearing as a manga in 1997, Hellsing got an anime series in 2001 and a second anime series, Hellsing Ultimate (apparently more faithful to the manga), in 2006. The live-action film is being produced for Amazon by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, Mike Callaghan, Reuben Liber, Jason Lust, and Kolstad.
Hellsing follows the efforts of the Hellsing Organisation, led by badass Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, as they seek to combat vampires, zombies, ghouls, and other supernatural beasties (also Nazis) that pose a threat to England. Helping them out is the exceptionally powerful vampire Alucard and his recently turned vampire recruit, former police officer Seras Victoria – it gets proper weird.
I have a lot of hope for this one, because Kolstad is a Hellsing fan, which generally makes these adaptations so much better.
Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it.
If you haven’t seen the anime, or need a bit of a refresher, Hellsing Ultimate (just called Hellsing in SA) is currently available to watch on Netflix.
Via Deadline.
