Apex Legends Chaos Theory event update adds solo queue

Don’t play well with others? Apex Legends is introducing No-Fill Matchmaking in the next big update, going live next week. Also, a whole bunch of other new things for people with friends.

Just to get this out of the way, because I see so many people have been asking about it, Apex Legends is getting the option to officially solo queue. Just untick the Fill Matchmaking box in the lobby and you’ll head to Legend select without randos filling up your empty squad slots. In order to avoid games full of solos, and because Apex is primarily about team work, only six No-Fill players will be allowed in each match and it won’t be enabled for Ranked.

Then, there’s a Caustic Town Takeover and a Ring Fury Escalation Takeover to change up gameplay a bit. Water Treatment (now Caustic Treatment) has been given a toxic makeover as part of one of Caustic’s experiments. Drain the noxious liquid to gain access to four gold loot items, but you’d better be quick about it.

Ring Fury is a playlist takeover that adds random Ring Flares around the map. Ring Flares are slowly expanding pockets of the Ring, within the play area, that do damage at the same level as the current Ring. If you get caught in one, you can protect yourself with a new item: the Heat Shield. Heat Shields create a protective dome and increase revive and heal speeds when inside the Ring or a Ring Flare. They won’t take up space in your backpack, because they get added to the new Survival Slot.

And it wouldn’t be a Collection Event without a bunch of new cosmetic items to spend your money on, including the new Bangalore Heirloom.

The Apex Legends Chaos Theory Collection Event begins on 9 March for all platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.
