Biscuit just wants to find his mum.
Developed by two-person team From Scratch Studios, Etched Memories is an indie, horror, cat simulation game in which you play as Biscuit the grey tabby. Woken during a storm to find his mum missing, Biscuit goes out on a quest to find her, using only his vague memories and suspiciously dextrous paddy paws to gather important items in his cat-tote, open combination locks, and read emails – normal cat stuff.
Gameplay is a mixture of third and first-feline as you travel over land and water to uncover more about your past as a research subject (which I guess would explain the emails). This is a horror game, so expect some gore and violence. More power to you if your heart can handle those plaintive little meows.
The full version of the game will also include a non-horror adventure mode that will let you trundle around the vast forest, enjoying the scenery, without having to worry about jump scares and feline ennui.
For now, there is a free demo of Etched Memories out on Steam – purrformance may vary. If cat adventure is your deal, I feel compelled to remind you that Annapurna Interactive’s Stray, announced during the PS5 Future of Gaming event last year, is also due out this year.
