The first look trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie is here and that iconic theme song has been given a remix.
Mortal Kombat has gone through a number of reincarnations for the big and small screen since the beloved garbage fire that is 1995’s Mortal Kombat and this new Mortal Kombat puts them all to shame, mostly because a film based on a game series synonymous with excessive blood, gore, and violence has finally been given an R rating.
This time around, non-canon character Cole Young is an MMA fighter who has been chosen, via suspiciously crisp dragon birthmark, to join in a legendary martial arts tournament that attracts only the best fighters, most prone to unnecessarily elaborate finishing moves, from across time and space. But he is also being hunted by Sub-Zero (who is a bad guy again), for mystery reasons. The rest of the gang’s all here, including Raiden, Liu Kang, Sonya, Jax, Kung Lao, Scorpion, Kano, Mileena, Goro, and Shang Tsung. Even Smoke and (potentially) Reptile got an invite.
Of course I’m going to watch this; Sub-Zero stabs Scorpion with his own frozen blood. Kano’s laser eye though…
Mortal Kombat is due to release to cinemas and HBO Max on 16 April.
