If you’re amongst the more than 2 million players hooked on Viking survival game Valheim, you’re probably eager to know what’s coming next.
Iron Gate Studios released a roadmap for Valheim’s 2021 development schedule when they launched the game earlier this month, but while the titles were tantalising, they didn’t give away much about what players could expect from future updates. PC Gamer recently interviewed co-founder of Iron Gate Studios Henrik Törnqvist to get a few more details about what exactly Valheim’s future holds.
Before we get into it, Iron Gate Studios is only a five-person team, and they’re mostly working on bug fixes at the moment, so maybe cut them some slack when it comes to release dates for all these updates.
First up, Hearth and Home is a little self-explanatory, but, according to Törnqvist, this update will include adding “more building pieces and stuff to do in and around the house”. This includes food preparation and recipes. Then, the Cult of the Wolf update will focus on “exploration and combat”, including new and different encounters. Ships and Sea will add more ship customisation options “and try to flesh out the ocean biome a bit more”. Lastly, the largest update of the year, Mistlands, will add a new biome to the game, which means new items, enemies, and resources, as well as a new boss to battle. Once development is complete, Valheim will feature nine different biomes (currently only six are finished). Each biome will have its own boss.
Great Odin’s beard, there’s a lot to look forward to.
You can find Valheim in Early Access on Steam.
