Pokémon UNITE heads to Canadian beta next month

The Pokémon Company has announced that it is releasing Pokémon UNITE for Android beta testing in Canada in March.

Announced last year, to rather lacklustre reception by fans, Pokémon UNITE is an upcoming Pokémon MOBA in development by The Pokémon Company and Tencent Games’ TiMi Studios for the Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms. The Pokémon franchise is known for its kid-friendly entertainment involving throwing balls at innocent creatures, forcing them into servitude, and battling them against other creatures for their master’s amusement and prestige, but Pokémon UNITE appears to be for an older crowd. The beta, at least, includes a requirement that testers must be over the age of 16.

Pokémon UNITE will feature the typical MOBA setup of five vs. five team battles, but we don’t know many details about the gameplay other than the fact that Trainers must run out onto the battle field, catch wild Pokémon, evolve them, and pit them against the opposing team’s Pokémon, in order to score points before the time runs out. Like League of Legends, but everyone is Pokémon.

Here’s the initial reveal trailer:

If you happen to be in Canada (it happens), and want to participate in the beta, you can head on over to the Google Play Store to register.
