Borderlands 3 Ava

Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut features new story content following everyone’s least favourite character

Also, a new raid boss, skins, challenge-based progression tracks (so hot right now), and behind-the-scenes content. And they’re relaunching Tales from the Borderlands, which you should really play, because it is excellent and shows you what happened to Scooter.

First up is a new raid boss – Hemovorous the Invincible (not daunting at all). Apparently providing “one of the greatest end-game challenges veteran Vault Hunters can find”, this massive Varkid is yours to battle for 500 Eridium. She scales with your level, and Mayhem Mode setting, and can only be accessed if you own the Director’s Cut and have finished the main story. Have fun with that.

Then, there’s some new story missions following Ava, the (SPOILER ALERT) baby Siren with the magical power of angst, who definitely didn’t get a certain main character killed… no. Anyway, follow Ava as she tries to solve a bunch of potentially supernatural crimes for her Mysteriouslier podcast. You’re going to have to do some deducing as well as shooting.

And, finally, challenge-based progression tracks are coming to Borderlands 3 in the form of three Vault Cards. The first Vault Card will launch with the Director’s Cut and let you earn a bunch of themed cosmetics and powerful, level appropriate, weaponry. Activate a Vault Card to complete a variety of daily and weekly challenges and earn even more XP (handy for new players).

Not linked to the Director’s Cut, Tales from the Borderlands will relaunch on 17 February. This, surprisingly emotional, narrative adventure game fills in some of the story gaps between Borderlands 2 and 3 and is definitely recommended for Borderlands fans. The relaunch brings all of the original episodes into one package for PC (Steam), Xbox, and PlayStation.

The Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut will launch on 18 March 2021. It’s included in Season Pass 2 and the Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition.
