Debuted in a Night City Wire livestream last night, the new Cyberpunk 2077 console gameplay video swaps between Xbox One X and Xbox Series X, and – conspicuously – skips the original Xbox One model. That’s kind of worrying.
There’s no doubt that the game’s aesthetic is absolutely fantastic, but pushing those neon pixels out onto a screen, not so much. Broadcast in 1080p and presumably also running at the same res, even the Xbox Series X version is inconsistent at times, and the Xbox One X version is dropping frames like it’s hot (it’s not). And what about the original Xbox One, minus the Xbox One X’s extra GPU boost? I think there’s a reason it’s not featured in this video.
Keep in mind that the Xbox Series X version in this demo is in backwards compatibility mode and a next-gen upgrade is expected to launch subsequent to the game, but if it’s wobbly now, I dunno how the upgrade is supposed to improve things. And that lip syncing can’t be saved even at 60 frames per second, sorry.
Make no mistake, I’m hyped for Cyberpunk 2077. But for a game that’s been stuck in development since forever and subject to multiple delays, I expected a lot more wow.
