Re-designed for “simplicity and ease of use” plus controller and custom save state support, and launching from ZIP files, DOSBox Pure promises some of the most-requested features for nostalgia junkies.
First launched in 2002, DOSBox is that must-have x86 hardware emulator for those of us who were kids in the 80s and 90s and learned to type playing Sierra games. Even companies like id Software and Blizzard have used DOSBox to re-release vintage catalogue games for contemporary systems. Now updated by indie programmer Bernhard Schelling, DOSBox Pure includes controller and custom save state support, CD image loading from ZIP archive files, key re-mapping, an on-screen keyboard, a cheat menu, improved audio compatibility with MIDI Soundfonts, and more.
It’s expected to be out by the end of the year.
