Those viral videos on social media that seem to show Xbox Series X consoles venting clouds of smoke? Fake news. And also not a super clever thing to do.
Since the launch of Microsoft’s next-gen console this week, a number of videos were uploaded to Twitter and YouTube of the Xbox Series X venting smoke.
Xbox Series X users are reportedly facing hardware problems on launch day — with multiple consoles starting to smoke 💨

But as this guy demonstrates, it’s not actual smoke, it’s vape smoke. Which isn’t even smoke, it’s a mix of vapourised propylene glycol and other chemicals that, ironically, could probably mess up the hardware in your console. That’s, like, basic science.
CANSADO de las FAKE NEWS.
Os dejo un video MIO explicando porque es Fake lo de la consola “Quemada” y como han logrado este efecto incluso estando la consola “APAGADA” pic.twitter.com/LfXzIBSu6N

And responding on Twitter like an exasperated pre-school teacher to her kids, Xbox reminded everybody to stop with this shit before Kevin gets glue stuck up his nose. Or, you know, whatever the console equivalent is.
We can’t believe we have to say this, but please do not blow vape smoke into your Xbox Series X.

Safety first, boys and girls.
