Red Bull hosting noob-friendly League of Legends stream for Worlds Final this weekend

Watching the League of Legends World Championship when you’re new to the game, or have never played it before, is sort of like watching rugby or cricket when you’re not a “sports person” – you understand that one team has to do something to score points and you know what that thing is when everyone else starts shouting, but the majority of the rules are a mystery and the commentary might as well be another language.

Except, in League, there are over 150 playable Champions and they all have different abilities, that can be augmented by various items, and then there are junglers, and farming, and ganks, and what is even going on? If you’ve never encountered LoL before, it can be a bit overwhelming and the regular commentary usually doesn’t help.

So, Red Bull is hosting a special, simplified version of the Worlds stream with commentary by Frankie Ward and Tom Deacon (accompanied by a variety of other LoL experts). The Red Bull Worlds Simplified stream will aim to break down every play, explaining what’s happening and why, so even someone who’s never played LoL before can understand and enjoy what’s going on. Which actually sounds like a pretty great idea.

I mean, I stopped playing League about eight years ago and I have no idea what’s going on any more, so I’m going to give this a look.

You can check out the Red Bull Worlds Simplified stream for the Finals of the League of Legends World Championship 2020 on Twitch and YouTube from 11:00 SAST on 31 October.
