Announced as part of the, recently livestreamed, Netflix Anime Festival 2020 event, Pacific Rim: The Black is a CGI anime coming to the streaming service in 2021.

Pacific Rim: The Black is being developed by Legendary Entertainment and Polygon Pictures (the Japanese 3DCG animation studio responsible for Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Transformers: The War for Cybertron Trilogy) and is based on the live-action movies about fighting enormous monsters with the power of teamwork, giant mechs, and single-use swords.
From the Twitter post, it seems like the series potentially takes place long after the events of Pacific Rim: Uprising, assuming that’s what they mean by defeating the Kaiju. If the Jaegar depicted towards the end of the opening credits sequence is any indication, it doesn’t look like the one the kids find is Gypsy Avenger, but you never know.
Check out the opening sequence for Pacific Rim: The Black in the video below, starting at the 50:49 time mark:
Although the only thing it really shows you is why I’m always suspicious of animated series that rely on CGI. The Jaegars will probably look great, though.
