The Steam version of Apex Legends is still on schedule, but you’ll have to wait a little longer for the Nintendo Switch port.
Apex Legends game director Chad Grenier recently announced the Switch delay in a news post, citing the team’s desire “to do justice to the game and make it into the great experience Switch players deserve”. This means Switch fans will have to wait for 2021 before they get to play Apex on the toilet. When the Switch port does launch, it will include cross-play functionality with all the other platforms and feature the latest seasonal content.
If you’ve been waiting for the Steam version, it will arrive on 4 November, alongside the launch of Season 7 (which was also moved a week earlier than expected). PC players currently using Origin will be able to swap to Steam without losing any progression or unlocks.
Respawn recently added cross-play to Apex Legends, allowing PC, Xbox One, and PS4 players to play together in perfect harmony (mostly because console players won’t match against PC players unless they’ve got a PC in their squad). They’re looking into adding cross-progression for everyone, but it’s a little tricker merging two accounts in various states of progression and unlocks.
