Different good or different bad? I guess that depends on you, but if you don’t think it’s a big improvement on the PS4’s user interface, you’re wrong.
Presented in futuristic 4K with HDR (if you’ve got the tech to support it), the new PS5 dashboard is much more intuitive than previous gen versions, and includes expansive sub-sections for your games, apps, and media, and a central Control, uh, Center, instantly accessible from the controller’s PlayStation button that displays important info and new features like “Activities”.
Activities are displayed via on-screen cards in the Control Center, which enables you to discover new gameplay opportunities, go back to things you missed, jump directly into levels or challenges you want to play, and much more. Some Activity cards can be put in picture-in-picture mode, so you can view them without having to leave the game.
I wasn’t going to compare it with the Xbox user interface, but you know what, I kind of just did. Because it’s a lot like the Xbox user interface. And it’s okay, because it’s a user interface design that works.
