New season, new ban wave for Call of Duty: Warzone

Season 6 of Call of Duty: Warzone kicked off with a bunch of people getting, well, kicked off for cheating; about 20,000 of them.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s new season started yesterday (it’s got public transport now) and Activision reportedly welcomed around 20,000 PC players back with a ban, mostly for using a specific, subscription-based cheat service called EngineOwning. EngineOwning develops cheat software for multiple online games, but they’re just doing it to make people feel good about themselves. It’s a public service, really.

We believe that everyone should have the ability to win and enjoy online matches.

Shame.

So, obviously, the EO forums are full of banned players whining about not being able to play and threatening never to subscribe again. It’s almost like it’s a bad idea to subscribe to a cheat service. The schadenfreude is particularly exquisite and pairs well with the functional online multiplayer of your choice – treat yo’ self.

Cheating isn’t exactly a new problem for Warzone, Infinity Ward perma-banned over 70,000 players back in April and Activision managed to force another cheat developer, CXCheats, to stop selling Call of Duty-related products, and apologise for being bad, back in August. So, you can expect many more ban waves in the future.
