Fortnite: Save the World

MacOS Fortnite: Save the World becomes unplayable from next week and it’s totally all Apple’s fault

The three people playing Fortnite: Save the World on Mac will be getting refunds if they spent any money on the game mode between 17 September 2019 and 17 September 2020, and Epic Games’ ag shame campaign continues.

In a recent blog post, Epic announced that, if you play Fortnite: Save the World (the tower defence, survival shooter mode of Fortnite) on Mac, the game mode will not longer be playable from 23 September 2020, when the v14.20 patch releases. This is due to Epic’s ongoing legal dispute with Apple which has resulted in Apple dropping support for Fortnite. Rather predictably, Epic is still framing the situation as entirely Apple’s fault, despite the fact they broke their contract with Apple on purpose.

For Fortnite: Battle Royale, this just means Mac and iOS players are stuck on version v13.40, but can still technically play. The upcoming update for Save the World, however, will break previous versions of the game mode, making it unplayable.

So, if you play Save the World on MacOS, and spent actual money on Founder’s or Starter Packs (including upgrades), or any V-Bucks on Llamas, between 17 September 2019 and 17 September 2020, you’ll be getting an automatic refund sometime around 2 October 2020. You don’t have to do anything, it’ll just happen.
