South Park The Pandemic Special

Extra-length South Park episode “The Pandemic Special” surely won’t offend anyone

South Park is releasing a one-hour episode titled “The Pandemic Special” on 30 September, because of course it is. And I think I know how Kenny is going to go this time.

You should know by now that it’s never too soon for South Park to start making fun of serious, topical situations. In the upcoming one-hour special, Randy is capitalising on soaring weed sales to people stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic and the kids are heading back to school, complete with social distancing protocols and police oversight.

If you’re actually living in the United States, this is probably going to elicit some very uncomfortable laughter. For the rest of us, it’s just an extension of the satire-level news coverage the US has been getting throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. There’s plenty of material for creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to work with. It’s impressive that they managed to fit it all into one hour, really.

South Park “The Pandemic Special” premieres on Comedy Central on 30 September 2020. Obligatory outrage to follow.
