A patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone came out over the weekend, primarily to fix a weapon texture glitch, and, while it was pretty insignificant in size for PC and PS4 players, Xbox One fans had to set aside time to download 66.3GB.
In the official patch notes, Infinity Ward blamed the download bloat on “an unforeseen bug with the Microsoft patch delivery process” which forced Xbox One owners to re-download files they already had – fun. Don’t worry, they’re “working closely with Microsoft” to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen again (lol). For comparison, the size of the patch on the PC and PS4 was around 1.8 and 1.2GB respectively.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone currently take up about 183GB of install space on the Xbox One, about 190GB on the PS4, and about 200GB on PC, but console players at least have the option of removing bits of the game that they don’t need, which can slim the install down a little. Infinity Ward is in the process of updating game files so that they take up less space, but those updates come in the form of massive game patches that fans are finding increasingly frustrating to deal with.
Maybe they should released a collector’s edition that comes with its own SSD and data plan.
