Because Netflix is making one. So, if that super-delayed prequel game, which is totally still happening, doesn’t happen, at least there’s something to look forward to.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a film adaptation of Beyond Good & Evil is in early development and it will be a live-action animation hybrid, sort of like Detective Pikachu. Which is convenient, because they’ve got Rob Letterman (Detective Pikachu) to direct. It’s being produced by Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin for Ubisoft Film & Television.
Originally released in 2003, Beyond Good & Evil follows investigative reporter Jade, who is on a mission to reveal a conspiracy between the resident military dictatorship and the alien invaders that are threatening a remote mining planet that is inhabited by both humans and anthropomorphic animals. It wasn’t a commercial success, but it was critically acclaimed and gained a cult following over the years.
A prequel game was officially announced in 2017, but it doesn’t look like it will be released any time soon.
The Beyond Good & Evil Netflix film is in early development, so there is no casting or release date information at this stage.
