The Samurai Jack animated series, about a samurai trying to get back to the past in order to end the evil Aku’s reign of darkness, ended in 2017. Now, we’ve got a Samurai Jack game about a samurai trying to get back to the future in order to end the evil Aku’s reign of darkness. Does that mean we get an ending do-over?
Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is an action platformer in which Jack is cast back in time by Aku (time trickery is his go-to defensive move) and so must battle his way back to the future, with the help of some familiar friends, in order to “determine a new legend” and defeat Aku… again. This sounds a lot like the game will potentially re-write the official animated series ending, which was a bit bleak.
One thing’s for sure, you’ll probably have to learn how to jump good.
You can learn more about the game during the Samurai Jack Showcase event at the virtual Adult Swim Con on 25 July at 03:30 SAST (because time zones).
Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is due to release on 21 August 2020 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. If you need a Samurai Jack story recap, the full series is currently available on Showmax.
