Respawn Entertainment is celebrating their 10th anniversary and as “near and dear to everyone” as Titanfall is, it hasn’t been invited to the party. Looks like the series will have to live on through Apex Legends lore for a little while longer. Meanwhile, enjoy this video recap of Respawn’s joyous first decade.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Respawn’s co-founder Vince Zampella posted a blog entry that confirms Apex Legends is their highest priority, with the team “devoted to continue to evolve the competitive experience” of the uber-successful battle royale. Alongside Apex, they’re also working on VR experience Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond and, according to a recent IGN interview, are in the early days of development on a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
As much as they love Titanfall, Zampella also mentioned, in the same interview, that they’re not working on Titanfall 3 at the moment, but that doesn’t mean they never will.
There’s nothing currently in development. But it’s always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back. At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We’ll see if I can make that happen.
By “little bits of stuff” he most likely means the Apex Legends lore that’s interwoven with the Titanfall series.
Titanfall 2 came out in 2016 and, while excellent and definitely worth playing, didn’t sell nearly as well as its predecessor. This was probably due to its release window, putting it up against Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, as well as the perception that it was an Xbox exclusive despite being available for the PS4.
