Taika Waititi is directing and co-writing a new Star Wars movie

The New Zealand TV, film, and pop culture wizard, whose previous franchise credits include The Mandalorian’s debut season finale, is teaming up with 1917 writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns to collaborate on a Star Wars movie, Disney has confirmed.

Taika Waititi, who also directed Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and directed, wrote, and co-starred in Jojo Rabbit, told Variety back in February that he’d work on a Star Wars movie if it “was right”, adding that, “I would want to do any kind of movie if it made sense, and if it felt not like career suicide”.

Whatever your opinion is of the controversial Star Wars sequel trilogy, who wouldn’t love a Taika Waititi Star Wars movie? With Jeff Goldblum as a glamorous mob boss on Tatooine, maybe. Oooooh. I’d watch that.
