The debut series of the South African #StayAtHome esports charity event has closed on over R5,000 in public donations to the Solidarity Fund and BUSQR, the organisers have confirmed, with a sequel series expected next month.
The event, which included FIFA 20 and PUBG Mobile competitions over two weekends in April, also clocked some 3000 YouTube viewers and trended in local Twitter’s top five hashtags – with extra support in the studio from Mzanzi music scene superfan Texx and the City’s Tecla and muso Karen Zoid.
Recognising the limited budgets and precarious employment prospects during the COVID-19 pandemic, “what people could give was hugely appreciated,” says Bring Back Sports creator and coordinator Glenn Kisela.
There are so many people to thank for putting together #BringBackSports2020 & this is a small way of saying thank you.
Watch it until the end because there’s a teaser to the new gaming title we’re going into for Edition II. Really excited about the evolution of this. #EsportsZA pic.twitter.com/xvQ6eHeg3W
