Rather than annihilating the human race with the perfect pandemic, you’ll be tasked with preventing one. Which seems way more appropriate, given the current COVID-19 situation.
A lot of people have turned to Ndemic Creations’ Plague Inc. in these uncertain times; using the plague sim as some sort of masochistic comfort tool. Due to its popularity, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) wondered if they could make a game that focussed on preventing an outbreak rather than causing one, so, now, Ndemic is adding a new game mode that does exactly that.
According to Ndemic’s announcement, the new gameplay mode means players will have to “balance managing disease progression and boosting healthcare systems as well as controlling real-world actions such as triaging, quarantining, social distancing, and closing of public services”. So, you’ll be saving the world instead of destroying it – hooray!
Ndemic has also donated $250,000 to be split between CEPI and the WHO’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund to help fund the search for a COVID-19 vaccine.
Plague Inc. is free on Android and costs a tiny amount on iOS, so you might as well give it a go. The pandemic prevention update will be free to all players while the coronapocalypse is still in effect.
