COVID-19 presents Eskom with a “unique opportunity” to do its job

South Africa’s Voted Worst Since 2005 utility company has stunned and amazed citizens today with an unprecedented commitment to “keep the lights” on during the country’s three weeks of pandemic lockdown.

In a #disruptive announcement on Twitter, Eskom exec Monde Bala describes the lockdown as a “unique opportunity to demonstrate how we can continue to keep the lights on”, promising to “only be attending to critical services” including unscheduled power failures (presumably not including scheduled power failures), emergencies, and meter readings.

“Eskom will revert back to its full array of services when the lockdown period is officially over,” Bala adds, also not including what exactly those other services even are.

And 2020 keeps on 2020ing.
