Samsung’s PlayGalaxy Link service is shutting down at the end of the month

If you’ve never heard of Samsung’s PlayGalaxy Link game streaming service, that’s probably why it will no longer exist from 27 March 2020.

It seems that so few people cared about the PlayGalaxy Link beta release that Samsung is quietly shutting it down, about four months after it was launched – shame. PlayGalaxy Link was Samsung’s attempt at being part of the cloud-based gaming future, allowing people to stream games from their PC to their Samsung device… if they owned a Galaxy Note 10 (more devices were going to be added).

It was like Google Stadia, Project xCloud, or SteamLink, but only for Galaxy handsets. According to Samsung, shutting down the service will allow their “Development organization to more effectively focus its resources and add value to the next release of new product”.

On a related note, Microsoft announced last month that they were partnering with Samsung on Project xCloud-related business, but we’ll have to wait until a little later in the year to find out what that actually means. Assumedly, it will have something to do with packaging the xCloud game streaming service on Samsung devices.

So, PlayGalaxy Link didn’t really stand much of a chance.
