Square Enix delays Final Fantasy 7 Remake and The Avengers

Confirming the first of 2020’s inevitable interruptions to your weekend schedule, the publisher has pushed back the launches of the two games by several weeks and several months respectively.

According to an announcement on Twitter from Final Fantasy 7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase, this one has needs a “few extra weeks to apply final polish”. The game was originally expected to launch on 3 March, but is now launching on 10 April instead.

The situation with the Avengers is more or less the same deal, but with extra-extra time necessary to finish things up. In an update on the game’s website, Crystal Dynamics’ studio bosses Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg explain that “we have made the difficult decision” to move the launch from 15 May to 4 September.

When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.

But it’s okay, because Cyberpunk 2077’s launch hasn’t been delayed.

…

Not yet, anyway.

Uh-oh, have I jinxed it now?

Stay tuned, kids.
