The future of Minecraft isn’t exactly on the same level as anti-vaxxers or climate change deniers, but there aught to be a critical thinking test you have to pass before clicking Share.
Thanks to a hoax news website that allows anyone to create a prank “news” story (for the lulz), the Internet (Twitter) was recently abuzz with rumours that Minecraft would be getting the shaft towards the end of 2020. Anyone who actually opened the article titled “Minecraft will shut down their servers in late 2020” would have been greeted with a very obvious message that it was a prank, but who even reads anymore?
Minecraft is actually doing rather well, thanks, and Mojang has no reason to shut it down. As of 2019, the blocky sandbox had over 112 million monthly players and tens of millions of those people aren’t even playing it for free. With the frequency of the game’s updates and content enhancements, that popularity probably won’t be fading anytime soon.
So, your pixel pigs are safe for the foreseeable future.
Happy crafting.
