If you’re up for a round of Gwent, and you’re a console player, you’ll only have until June next year to get your game on before it’s gone for good.
With the recent release of Gwent for iOS, and an upcoming Android launch, CD Projekt Red have decided that they won’t be able to provide the same level of quality support across all current and future platforms, so they’re axing console versions of the game in order to focus on PC and mobile. PC and mobile are the more popular platforms, anyway.
Gwent is a free-to-play card game based on the game that appears in Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher novels and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
From 9 December, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will be able to copy their console progress (such as cards, rank, and Thronebreaker rewards) to a GOG.com account. They can’t merge progression, so you need to have not played Gwent on GOG for this to work. The console version of the game will also go into a freeze state from this point, with no further updates, no new content, and no matchmaking to other platforms. Real-money purchases have already been disabled.
Gwent will remain operational on consoles until 9 June 2020.
