Disco Elysium is 2019’s best game you’ve (probably) never even heard of

And I dunno how I missed this one because it’s an isometric RPG featuring “death, sex, taxes and disco”, hardboiled detective noir, and one of the most diverse, flexible, and intriguing character systems I’ve encountered this side of a cult-retro paperware game. It’s glorious.

“Become a hero or an absolute disaster of a human being,” promises Disco Elysium’s blurb, and I can confirm that, for the moment, I’m very much an absolute disaster of a human being – but that’s my fault for choosing the “Drama” signature skill. Everything is theatre, baby, and tragedy is kind of the point. Woe is me, gimme some cash, drop in at the club tonight and watch me sing karaoke.

It’s political. It’s repulsive. It’s hilarious. It’s entirely unique. It’s out now on PC.
