Warframe Cinematic Intro

Warframe gets a cinematic intro six years after release

Free-to-play, co-op, action RPG, Warframe was released in 2013 and now there’s a cinematic intro for it; six years later. Better late than never? Yes.

Developed by Digital Extremes, Warframe sees you controlling a member of the Tenno, ancient warriors awakened from cryosleep in the middle of a distant future war. You pick your Warframe, you do missions, shoot stuff, level up, the usual.

Back in 2013, the game struggled to gain traction with players as it was competing against Destiny’s marketing hype, and hampered by accusations of using pay-to-win systems. It got rid of the pay-to-win nonsense, listened to its community, and, several expansions later, currently has over 50 million players. Also, now it has a proper shiny intro sequence, recently debuted at TennoCon 2019.

The cinematic intro was directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who is currently working on the upcoming Uncharted film. Warframe is doing much better than the early days of its release, but I guess Digital Extremes decided they needed a little boost in interest. It is a very pretty cinematic.

Warframe is currently available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, but this fancy new intro sequence will probably only start appearing in the game in early 2020.
