So the Franco bros are making a Masters of Doom series pilot

James and Dave Franco will be working on a pilot based on David Kushner’s book Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture, in cooperation with USA Network. The book’s title is undoubtedly a mouthful, but it recounts the origins of the John Carmack and John Romero in the 1990s, how they created the popular Doom franchise, and the effects it had on their friendship.

The brothers will be teaming up with Tom Bissell as a co-writer and executive producer – Bissell’s previous work includes writing for the Uncharted, Battlefield, and Gears of War franchises, among others. Should this pilot be successful, it could be the first piece of an anthology that will focus on other majorly influential parts of video game history.

So far, there’s no word on a release date yet, nor who’s going to be part of the cast. Although the Doom franchise is known for its over-the-top gore, demons, and hellish aesthetics, it seems that this series will focus on something a little more real. One thing’s for sure – it would be cool if the Francos cast themselves as Carmack and Romero, because why the hell not.
