Gremlins Gizmo

Gremlins animated prequel series will probably cause 90% less childhood trauma

We all remember Gremlins, the movie that gave you nightmares as a child and rendered you incapable of facing a custard copenhagen for quite some time (tragic for so many reasons). Well, it’s getting an animated prequel series that seems to be aimed at children, unlike the 1984 original.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will run over 10 episodes and will revolve around how Mr. Wing, the ever-disappointed shopkeeper, came to be in possession of Gizmo the adorable Mogwai/spawner of nightmares. Set in 1920s Shanghai, a 10-year-old Sam Wing and his teenage street thief friend, Elle, embark on a folklore-riddled quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure. Obviously, they’re being pursued by an evil industrialist and his ever-growing gremlin horde.

The plot sounds child-friendly, but it might have an edge, seeing that the executive producers include people that have previously worked on Animaniacs, Coraline, and Robot Chicken.

The series will be available on the WarnerMedia streaming service that has yet to officially launch. There is no release date, as yet.

For anyone wondering, it was the melting gremlin scene.
