Game of Thrones may be over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still talk about it, and by talk I mean complain. This time it’s something legitimate, because there was an option to have a pack of 50 direwolves attack an undead dragon and the showrunners said no.
I mean, it was a logistic impossibility, since they had difficulty adding a single, mopey Ghost to the scenes he should have been in, but it still would have been cool. Miguel Sapochnik, director of a number of GoT episodes, including The Long Night, recently revealed that the pack of direwolves idea was part of the process, but didn’t make it to the filming stage.
50 direwolves attacking an undead dragon does not a good movie make.
This is just incorrect, sir.
Where might these direwolves have come from, since there seemed to be so few of them around? Well, we saw Nymeria (Aria’s wolf), alive and angry, in season seven, episode two, so she would probably have been the pack leader. In the books, it is mentioned that she has been gathering a giant pack of venge-wolves, while all the human-centric plot has been going on, so maybe she could have acquired some dire friends from across the wall.
It would have been more believable than the majority of the decisions made during The Long Night, anyway.
