The Dark Tower movie was, at best, a cruel prank on unsuspecting fans of the Stephen King horror fantasy series, but Amazon is pushing forward with a TV adaptation nonetheless, because Ka is a wheel, and all that.
The TV series is apparently a prequel to the 2017 film because, really, what else were they going to do? It’s based on the fourth book, Wizard and Glass, which mostly serves as an almost 800 page flashback episode about Roland’s youth, how he earned his guns, and why he hates wizards so much. It’s basically a Western with wizards which sounds pretty rad, actually. It’s probably also the easiest to adapt for TV, being the least weird of the books (if you only focus on the flashback).
“Purists” will be happy to know that Roland is played by a white guy this time; Sam Strike (EastEnders, Nightflyers). Roland’s nemesis, Marten Broadcloak, will be played by Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings), and Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones) will be “cowboy”, which I assume means he’s playing another Gunslinger. He’s too old to be playing one of Roland’s bros, so maybe he’s primary antagonist, and all around bad guy, Eldred Jonas.

There’s no news, as yet, on when the series will be released.
