Some guy scammed Facebook and Google out of over $100 million with fake invoices, lol

In this week’s edition of “Omg, Why Didn’t I Think of That?”, a Lithuanian man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges including identity theft and money laundering for scamming millions from the two tech megacorps. Okay, so maybe he got busted, but the scheme was ingenious.

According to the indictment by the Manhattan US Attorney’s office, Evaldas Rimasauskas registered a Latvian company with the same name as Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Quanta Computer Inc., and issued fake invoices from this company to Facebook and Google for made-up services, defrauding them out of $99 million and $23 million respectively. Apparently Karen in accounts skipped basic service validation procedures that day or something.

Rimasauskas faces a sentence of up to 30 years in prison, or a promising career in politics.
