You remember porgs, the perpetually sad little puffin-hamsters that broke the internet when the trailers for The Last Jedi came out. Thanks to the good people at Magic Leap, you can now have a porg of your own. Well, a virtual one at least, if you happen to own a Magic Leap One VR system. Who needs tactile feedback and money, anyway?
Magic Leap is an American startup working on head-mounted mixed reality technology, called Magic Leap One, that allows you to superimpose computer-generated objects on the world around you. Pretty much like the Microsoft HoloLens, but the HoloLens doesn’t have porgs.
With the Magic Leap One you can put a porg in your living room, kitchen, bathroom, wherever seems porg-appropriate, and have it live out its days for your amusement. You can potentially build a whole colony of the things and finally fulfill your dreams of becoming Porgmaster General. Or just love it, and feed it, and pet it, and call it George. Up to you. They function like virtual pets and can produce little porg babies. Which suggests they age. Which begs the question of what happens when they die? Does your home become dotted with the corpses of your fallen companions? I like to think so.
