Game of Thrones’ final season will “surprise” viewers if you weren’t expecting everybody to die, maybe

Or if you were expecting everybody to die, maybe. Oooooh. I didn’t even consider that.

Whatever’s going to happen, though, Lena Headey – who plays love-to-hate-her, hate-to-love-her archbitch Cersei Lannister – reckons we won’t see it coming.

“People will be surprised at every turn this season,” she tells Entertainment Tonight. She won’t tell much more than that, admitting only that she’s had “many fantasies about how Cersei would – if she were to – die”. Us too.

But I think it was, every year, anyone’s lying if they say they didn’t kind of rush to the end of each script and go, ‘Oh, PHEW!’

Including Sean Bean, probably, but for other reasons. The guy has a meme to maintain.

The show’s eighth and last season starts on 14 April, when we find out who does and doesn’t die, and pretend to be super shocked when Cersei swaps her baby with the White Walkers in exchange for the Iron Throne and it’s revealed she’s actually been Ned Stark this entire time.
