Because you should be. Mixing up the socially awkward adolescent anxieties of a million other shows and movies with the gaudy aesthetic and nostalgic poignance of ’80s John Hughes teen classics like The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, new Netflix Original Sex Education is the must-binge TV series of the moment.
Protagonist Otis is a conventionally unconventional guy – he’s 16, kind of a nerd, and has problems with his sexuality. But maybe not the problems you’d expect. “I’ve noticed you’re pretending to masturbate,” his mom tells him in one cringingly memorable scene in the first episode. “And I was wondering if you wanted to talk about it.”
She’s a sex therapist, so dealing with this sort of thing is her job, but he isn’t a client, he’s her child, and this is probably why he’s got issues. So like everybody else with unresolved issues (including his mom), Otis becomes a sex therapist for the kids at Moorfield High. What could go wrong? Besides not enough lube, obviously.
