The Lego Movie sequel has an official title and poster and you’re not going to believe your eyes

LOL. How was that clickbait headline? In my defence, you haven’t actually clicked on anything yet, so let me try that again: The Lego Movie sequel has an official title and poster and none of it is particularly exciting.

For the headline, the creative team has come up with The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

The poster says The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, made out of Lego bricks.

So, that’s that then.

The sequel is being produced and written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the same duo who took care of directing duties on the original Lego Movie. In terms of story, this one is said to take off where the the first movie ended, with the Duplo invasion. It seems the overarching theme this time plays with concepts of gender, which sounds like bloody dangerous ground to tread these days, if you ask me. “What’s different and similar about gender, when a boy plays vs. how a girl plays?” said Chris McKay in a Collider article, back when he was still tied to the project as director. “What kinds of stories are there? Chris and Phil are super fucking smart and really thoughtful and sensitive writers.”

They’d better be as sensitive as a baby’s bum, or they’re going to have their asses handed to them. People are on hair triggers about these things these days. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is out in February 2019.
