Fortnite’s jetpacks have arrived

Fortnite has been cranked up to version 4.2, which probably means a lot of things to a lot of Fortnitey people, but I’m here to tell you about just one thing: Jetpacks.

I told you about the jetpacks in February, and now the fairy tale has come true. If you’ve ever played a game that features a jetpack of any sort, these behave exactly how you would expect them to. That means that you fire it up by hitting jump while in mid-air, it gives you only a limited period of boost, and once its power is depleted you need to be off-boost to recharge.

The jetpacks are filed under backpack items, a new item category in Fortnite. Don’t expect to just waltz into the game and grab one off the shelf, though, because these bad boys are rare. Like, legendary rarity rare. As a backpack item, jetpacks take up an inventory slot and can be moved around. Moved around within your inventory, of course, not moved around on your person. A jetpack strapped to your face isn’t going to end well for anyone, so it’s best to keep it where it belongs.

Right, so, off you go then. To the skies, my brethren!
